Year-End Awards

 
 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

A. To qualify, a member must attend TWO GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS and any combination of TWO other club events for a total of FOUR (i.e. 2 meetings plus any 2 other club events). A SIGN UP ROSTER WILL BE AVAILABLE AT EACH MEETING AND/OR EVENT AND IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE MEMBER TO SIGN THE ROSTER. This roster will be used to determine year-end award eligibility.

There are usually 18 possible events per year: 6 meetings, 6 trail rides, and 8 horse show days. Clinics also may be held from time to time.

B.  It is strongly recommended that if you are in contention for an award that you plan on attending the Awards Presentation. If you are unable to attend PLEASE have someone there to represent you.

C.  Members must meet the requirements of each Division(s) from which they wish to receive an award(s).

 

SHOW AND PERFORMANCE

I.  Conditions for Year-End Awards:

A. A horse must be registered with AQHA to be eligible for points in any event (except unnamed weanlings may be nominated if they are eligible to be registered with AQHA).

B. Show season will be a calendar year: January 1st to December 31st.

  1. Points counting toward year-end awards must be earned at shows approved by AQHA and held within the boundaries of NCQHA (see Article II, Section 3 of By-Laws).

  2. Point System shall be as follows: one point earned per horse in a class, to a maximum of 9 points. (i.e., if there are  5 horses in a class, 1st place earns 5 points, 2nd place earns 4 points, etc. If there are 20 horses in a class, 1st place earns 9 points, 2nd place earns 8 points, etc.). The NCQHA sponsored Mile High Classic and Heart of the Rockies shows shall be double points for purposes of year-end awards (i.e., 20 horses in class, 1st place earns to 18 points, 2nd place earns 16 points, etc.).

  3. Prior to acceptance of any points, the owner or lessee of the horse(s) must be a member of NCQHA and provide proof of ownership or lease (Lease as defined in the AQHA Rulebook).

    1. A member is defined in the NCQHA By-Laws, Article II.

    2. No points earned prior to date of membership will be accepted (except for points earned before March 1st, in which case dues must be paid by March 1st).

    3. Proof and date of ownership or lease will be determined by AQHA registration papers or AQHA lease agreement.

    4. Syndication and Partnership: 50 percent of the owners must be members or eligible to be members of NCQHA in order for the horse(s) to qualify for an award.

    5. A youth member must meet youth designated requirements to be eligible for an open award.

    6. In order for a youth to be eligible for a youth year-end award, he/she must meet the guidelines set down by NCQHYA for year-end awards.

  4. If a member’s horse(s) is sold or leased, points earned up to and including date of sale, stay with the seller.At the seller’s or lessee’s written request, within thirty (30) days, points may be transferred to the new owner, provided he/she was a member prior to the first point earned by the horse and can meet the requirements as set forth in Section I.B.4.

  5. If a member moves away from the NCQHA region, points earned up to and including the date of the move, stay with the horse(s). If he/she met all the requirements and is eligible to receive a year-end award prior to the move, a year-end award will be given.

  6. Futurities and Maturities will not count.

  7. The exhibitor of the horse MUST be a member.

  8. Owners must nominate horse(s) in contention for year-end awards by December 31st of the previous year (Revised November, 2008). The horse(s) name, registration number and qualifying categories shall be provided to the Awards Committee by that date.

II. Divisions for Year-End Awards

A. Halter Divisions

  1. OPEN Halter – Grand and Reserve Awards will be given to the overall Open High-Point Halter Horses.

  2. AMATEUR Halter – Grand and Reserve Awards will be given to the overall Amateur High-Point Halter Horses.

  3. YOUTH Halter – Grand and Reserve Awards will be given to the overall Youth High-Point Halter Horses.

B. Performance Divisions

  1. OPEN Performance – Grand and Reserve Awards will be given to the Open High-Point Performance Horses in Western and English.

  2. AMATEUR Performance – Grand and Reserve Awards will be given to the overall High-Point Amateur Performance Horses in Western and English. Amateur will be as defined by the AQHA Rulebook. A member classified as Novice Amateur and Amateur must DECLARE only one Division for year-end awards.

  3. NOVICE AMATEUR Performance – Grand and Reserve Awards will be given to the overall High-Point Novice Amateur Performance Horses in Western and English. Novice Amateur will be as defined by the AQHA Rulebook. A member classified as Novice Amateur and Amateur must DECLARE only one Division for year-end awards.

  4. YOUTH Performance – Grand and Reserve Awards will be given to the Youth High-Point Performance Horses in Western and English. Youth will be as defined by the AQHA Rulebook. A member classified as Novice Youth and Youth must DECLARE only one Division for year-end awards.

  5. NOVICE YOUTH Performance – Grand and Reserve Awards will be given to the overall High-Point Novice Youth as defined by the AQHA Rulebook. A member classified as Novice Youth and Youth must DECLARE only one Division for year-end awards.

C. Breeder Division – Broodmares

  1. Breeder as defined on AQHA registration papers.

  2. AQHA Point System will be used.

  3. Only open points accumulated by one progeny, regardless of age, will be considered on any one mare for any one year.

    1. Only open points earned by one progeny during the year the award is given will be counted.

    2. Progeny that have accumulated enough points to win the award once in this category are not eligible for future nominations.

  4. It will be the responsibility of the breeder to supply the name of the mare and the one progeny to be considered for this award.

  5. The breeder is not required to own the mare or progeny at the time the points are accumulated; however, they must have owned the mare at the time of conception.

  6. In case of a tie, a duplicate year-end award will be given to each breeder.

D. Breeder Division – Stallions

  1. Breeder as defined on AQHA registration papers.

  2. AQHA Point System will be used.

  3. Only open points accumulated by one progeny, regardless of age, will be considered on any one stallion for any one year.

    1. Only open points earned by one progeny during the year the award is given will be counted.

    2. Progeny that have accumulated enough points to win the award once in this category are not eligible for future nominations.

  4. It will be the responsibility of the breeder to supply the name of the stallion and the one progeny to be considered for this award.

  5. The breeder is not required to own the stallion or progeny at the time the points are accumulated; however, they must have owned the stallion at the time of conception.

  6. In case of a tie, a duplicate year-end award will be given to each breeder.
 

YOUTH

A. In order for a youth to qualify for the OPEN NCQHYA Year-End Awards, he/she must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be a member of NCQHA.

  2. Attend 4 NCQHYA meetings, 2 NCQHA meetings, participate in NCQHYA Sponsorship Fund Raiser (3 sponsors minimum) and participate in at least one (1) NCQHYA Fun Activity.

B. Open Awards shall be as defined in the Handbook, Section II, A and B of the Divisions for Year-End Awards.

C. AQHYA World Show – QUALIFICATIONS FOR AQHYA WORLD FUNDS. If sufficient funds exist in the youth treasury, $100 will be divided evenly among the youth(s) who qualify and attend the AQHYA World Show in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In order for a youth to qualify, five (5) of the eight (8) activities listed under the Qualifications for NCQHYA Year-End Awards must have been met before August 1.

D. Youth must nominate horse(s) in contention for year-end awards by December 31st of the previous year (Revised November, 2008). The horse(s) name, registration number and qualifying categories shall be provided to the Awards Committee by that date.

 

TRAIL RIDES

In order to qualify for a year-end award, members must meet rules under General Requirements and must participate in a minimum of four (4) NCQHA-sponsored trail rides for that year.

 

ARBITRATION

A. There shall be an Arbitration Committee established consisting of the Board of Directors and Officers to handle any complaint and rule interpretation and to recommend a course of action in each individual case. Members are requested to submit their complaints in writing to the Board of Directors. The decision of the Arbitration Committee is final.
